Over many years of leading music for Adoration and Praise & Worship, I learned the difference between an OK worship experience and an EPIC worship experience is 1) the quality of the music, and 2) the prayerful and holding space created through the music.

 

Having beautiful music that glorifies God is so important for opening people up to the Divine. You also want to create a space that is holding for everyone and invites them into a deeper interaction with the Lord. The way the worship leader guides through prayer is pivotal. The way they listen to how the congregation responds, and how they intuitively adapt the music to meet the congregation where they are is key. Subsequently, the momentum created in the music that moves to lift people's hearts up to a deeper encounter with the Lord can foster powerful worship. Conversely, low quality music that does not create the right atmosphere can actually impede worship and serve as a distraction from the Lord.
